(Reuters) -A U.S. trade court on Wednesday blocked President Donald Trump's tariffs from going into effect, ruling the president overstepped his authority by imposing across-the-board duties on imports from nations that sell more to the United States than they buy.

Most of President Trump’s tariffs were halted late Wednesday by a US trade court in a sharp rebuke of the president’s signature trade war policy.

A US federal court has blocked President Donald Trump's sweeping tariffs, in a major blow to a key part of his economic policies. The Court of International Trade ruled that an emergency law invoked by the White House does not give the president unilateral authority to impose tariffs on nearly every country.
