Peter Navarro, senior trade adviser to U.S. President Donald Trump, said Mexico had been "very cooperative" on efforts to crack down on the influx of fentanyl into the U.S., and Canada had started to understand that it needed to do more.

Some of the purported concessions that led to a 30-day pause on the tariffs were things Canada and Mexico had already done before Trump’s threat, but it’s complicated.

Canada, China and Mexico are the United States' three biggest trading partners, and Trump's threatened tariffs have sent shock waves through the global economy.
