Two grizzlies have been shot and killed in self-defense incidents near Island Park this year. The area, which neighbors Yellowstone National Park, has Idaho’s highest concentration of grizzly bears.

Idaho wildlife officials are asking the public to help find the person who shot and killed a grizzly bear near Island Park, according to a news release from the Idaho Department of Fish and Game.

Often, the results of the investigations go unreported, or the case is not solved. But in 2022, the Idaho Department of Fish and Game cracked an appalling case involving the killing of a mother grizzly, which was shot 12 times, and whose 6- to 8-week-old cub subsequently died due to the loss of its mother.

On September 2nd, an adult female grizzly bear was found shot and killed in Clark County near Lower Shotgun Road in the Willow Creek drainage west of Island Park Reservoir.
