Shell said on Tuesday that most of the oil leak from a land-based pipeline at Shell Energy and Chemicals Park Singapore on Bukom island had been cleaned up, with only small patches of light sheens around the island and Bukom Kechil remaining.

SINGAPORE - The clean-up of the waters, rocks and structures on and between Pulau Bukom and Bukom Kechil is expected to be completed in days, with no new oil sightings as at 3pm on Oct 22. This comes after more than 30 tonnes of “slop” – a mixture of oil and water – were leaked into the sea from a Shell pipeline between the two islands on Oct 20.

Singapore said it was alerted to an oil leakage from a Shell land-based pipeline early Sunday, and steps have been taken to clean up the spill.

Singapore agencies said on Tuesday they were making progress in cleaning up an oil leak and there had been no new sightings of oil at sea or onshore as of 3 p.m. (0700 GMT).

Clean-up efforts remain ongoing, and authorities are working to ensure minimal environmental damage while maintaining public safety
