The National Tsunami Warning Center confirmed that “a tsunami is not expected following the quake”. Alaska’s Department of Transportation said roadways, tunnels and key transport infrastructure would be inspected as a precaution, consistent with established protocols following moderate seismic events.
An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6 centered 37 miles northwest of Anchorage rattled Alaskans across Southcentral on Thursday morning, according to the Alaska Earthquake Center.
There were no immediate reports of major damage, but the state transportation department said it would survey roads, bridges and other infrastructure.
