India’s Prime Minister Modi landed in Russia’s Kazan on Tuesday afternoon to attend the Brics summit. He will also hold bilateral talks with Russia’s Putin and Iran’s Pezeshkian. His meeting with China’s Xi is not yet confirmed.

The leaders of the world’s top emerging economies have begun arriving in the western Russian city of Kazan where president Vladimir Putin will host the 16th Brics summit, the first gathering of the bloc since its expansion last year.

President Vladimir Putin will play host to Russia’s biggest gathering of world leaders, including the heads of 32 countries, since the invasion of Ukraine.

The Kremlin will be able to talk to major players like India and China about expanding trade and bypassing Western sanctions. India is an important market for Russian commodities, while China is where Moscow hopes to source dual-use and various military-related goods, Mr Gabuyev said.
