Northrop Grumman's Cygnus XL experienced main engine troubles that have hampered its resupply mission to the International Space Station, NASA said.

NASA on Wednesday night resumed plans to moor an uncrewed cargo craft to the International Space Station after resolving an early engine-shutdown issue it said was caused by a "conservative safeguard" in the vehicle's software settings.

NASA and Northrop Grumman are currently working on an alterative plan to get the spacecraft to the ISS after engine trouble.

The cargo ship launched on Sunday at 6:11 p.m. ET on board a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. Cygnus XL was scheduled to arrive at the ISS on Wednesday, but flight controllers are currently evaluating an alternative burn,
