ATLANTA (AP) — A winter storm that dropped heavy snow and glazed roads throughout the U.S. South was maintaining its icy grip on much of the region into the weekend.

After a freezing winter storm shut schools, cut power and cancelled or delayed flights, the South was slowly thawing Sunday as warmer weather melted snow and ice.

Impacts will begin in east Texas by Monday night. Ice and snow could contribute to power outages amid freezing temperatures.
