Williams was demoted after blowing a save on Friday night with a packed Yankee Stadium chanting that they wanted Luke Weaver to close. Williams' body language was awful and his pitches lacked confidence. Yankees manager Aaron Boone said this was a temporary change.

Devin Williams lost his job as Yankees closer after stumbling repeatedly during his first 10 games with New York.

“It’s disappointing,” Williams said in regard to losing the closer role, per Kuty. “You work for years to get to that point. To have that taken away from you, it’s not a fun feeling. Can’t say it’s undeserved.”
