Verizon Communications Inc. reported third-quarter revenue that missed analysts’ expectations, weighed down by lackluster sales of hardware such as mobile phones.

Verizon missed estimates for third-quarter revenue on Tuesday as fewer people upgraded their phones, eclipsing strong wireless subscriber additions and sending its shares down 3% in premarket trading.

Verizon reports customer additions, or retail postpaid phone net additions, of 239,000. Wall Street was expecting 221,000.
