U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio says El Salvador’s president “has agreed to the most unprecedented, extraordinary, extraordinary migratory agreement anywhere in the world."

El Salvador has offered to accept undocumented immigrants of any nationality with criminal backgrounds from the United States, an agreement that comes as the Trump administration seeks to ramp up its mass deportation efforts.

The Trump administration is assessing whether it could take up El Salvador's offer to house U.S. citizens convicted of crimes in its jails, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Tuesday, despite the apparent illegality of such a move.
