The nomadic Athletics will play home games on grass as they move from Oakland to Sacramento next season rather than the artificial turf initially planned at Sutter Health Park.

Common sense prevailed Monday when Major League Baseball said the former Oakland Athletics will not play on artificial turf next season in Sacramento but real grass instead. The plan to play on artificial turf seemed especially odd and ill-advised considering Sacramento temperatures soar well above 100 degrees in the summer and that playing on a fake surface significantly increases the heat at field level.
