Shading graphite can be done by using different tools & techniques. When using the pencils to shade, I prefer to work with a blunt pencil or more of the side of the pencil rather than a sharp point as this can more easily create scribbles and harsh lines. Shading needs to be soft and I find a shaprer pencil makes that much harder and more time consuming. So the point of the pencil can plat a bit role in achieving the desired effect.
